Samhain 2009

Samhain— from Irish Samhain, cf. Scottish Gaelic Samhuinn, Manx Gaelic Sauin and Old Irish Samain — means "summer's end", from sam meaning "summer" and fuin meaning "end"). It is a festival held on October 31–November 1 in Gaelic cultures. Many scholars think that it was the beginning of the Celtic year. Samhain marked the end of the harvest, the end of the "lighter half" of the year and beginning of the "darker half". The Gaels believed that the border between this world and the otherworld became thin on Samhain.
Pour Samhain, on évidait autrefois des gros navets, y traçant un visage, puis on les mettait sur le rebord des fenêtres pour éloigner les mauvais esprits. Moi, ce fut une citrouille et des oranges pour glisser dans ses dernières une surprise: une salade de fruit d'enfer!
