Samhain— from Irish Samhain, cf. Scottish Gaelic Samhuinn, Manx Gaelic Sauin and Old Irish Samain — means "summer's end", from sam meaning "summer" and fuin meaning "end"). It is a festival held on October 31–November 1 in Gaelic cultures. Many scholars think that it was the beginning of the Celtic year. Samhain marked the end of the harvest, the end of the "lighter half" of the year and beginning of the "darker half". The Gaels believed that the border between this world and the otherworld became thin on Samhain.

Pour Samhain, on évidait autrefois des gros navets, y traçant un visage, puis on les mettait sur le rebord des fenêtres pour éloigner les mauvais esprits. Moi, ce fut une citrouille et des oranges pour glisser dans ses dernières une surprise: une salade de fruit d'enfer!

Tonight, I was looking at a picture I took about six months ago. I should probably not admit it, but I really like it even if I am not sure why, or perhaps because I don’t know why. Anyway, that photograph makes me wonder. When I look at it, words come, different, indistinct, and ambivalent. So, I decided to surf the Internet for quotations with those key words. Then I made a selection. Quotations I liked, quotations that made me smile, but are they quotations about that photograph? Before you read them, a piece of advice: “Read not to contradict and confute; nor to believe and take for granted; nor to find talk and discourse; but to weigh and consider.” (Francis Bacon, 1561-1626, British Philosopher, Essayist, Statesman).

Happy Thanksgiving everybody! You celebrate it or you don't, it's part of your tradition or absolutely not, you can't avoid to think about how it started nicely with the Native Americans and about how it ended badly... whatever! I have all these thoughts but whatever!
I think that it is nice to have a day to be positive, together, thankful for everything good and not stressed out, tired, grumpy, etc.
I wish people wouldn't need a special day to be thanksful for the moon, the sun, flowers, beautiful colours, friendship, love, fairies and everything that makes life extraordinary. But, now and then, we turn into Grumpy and forget about the extraordinary. So yeah! Happy Thanksgiving! Happy special day full of positive thoughts!

Je suppose qu'il est de bon ton de commencer par se présenter, alors allons-y! Mais tout d'abord, je voulais vous dire que vous pouvez en savoir et en voir bien plus sur www.thepurplecat.fr.

Mordue d’art en général : littérature –surtout la poésie– dessin, peinture, cinéma, musique et bien-sûr photographie !
J’aime capturer des instants, des sensations, des sentiments.
Depuis toujours, je promène mon appareil partout avec moi et j’aime dessiner, mais surtout regarder.
Tombée dans la marmite toute petite, mon père est dessinateur, ma mère adorait jouer la conteuse, écrire des poèmes (qui ont été mis en musique pour certains), aider des amis metteurs en scène. Mon beau-père est musicien. J’ai donc toujours été dans l’envers du décor, au centre d’un milieu difficile mais passionné et passionnant : celui des artistes, des créateurs, des amoureux de l’art et de la vie.
J’aime arpenter le monde, aller au théâtre, à l’opéra, voir des concerts, visiter des expos, des musées, lire encore et encore. Je suis en train d’écrire une thèse sur un poète irlandais et le lien entre son écriture et le pictural.
J’aime le mélange des genres.
Bref, j’aime !
J’espère que vous aimerez ce que j’ai à vous montrer, que vous me donnerez votre avis, laisserez des commentaires, des suggestions, des critiques (elles aussi sont constructives). J’aime l’interaction et j’espère que vous reviendrez.

Art lover: literature –especially poetry– drawing, painting, cinema, music, and of course photography!
I love capturing instants, sensations, feelings.
I have always carried my camera around. I love drawing but most of all admiring, watching the world turning around.
Speaking of the world, mine has always been an artistic one: my father is a watercolour painter as well as a cartoonist; my mother was a very talented storyteller, she wrote poems (some of which have been put into music), and helped some directors; my stepfather is a musician. So, a world without art would have no sense to me. No sense indeed.
I love travelling, going to the theatre, the opera, concerts, exhibitions, museums, and reading, reading, reading. I’m writing a PhD on an Irish poet (about the way his writing turns out to be a pictorial one).
I love when genres are intertwined.
To put it in a nutshell: I LOVE!
I hope that you would like or even love what I have to show you, that you would give me your opinion, advice. You can criticize too of course! It could help too. I love interaction and I hope that you will come back soon.
